AIRBUS AIRBUS Defence and Space
Airbus Defence & Space GmbH, 100% owned by Airbus Group (the former EADS Company) is a worldwide leader in the space domain. The division was formed in January 2014 by combining the business activities of Cassidian, Astrium and Airbus Military. The entity involved in the Consortium is the Space Systems division of Airbus DS with two main activities: Satellites (covering civil and military telecommunications, Earth observation, and science and navigation programmes) and Launchers. The new division is Europe’s number one defence and space enterprise, the second largest space business worldwide and among the top ten global defence enterprises. It employs 38,600 employees generating revenues of approximately €14 billion per year from multiple Sites across Europe.
Airbus DS GmbH in Friedrichshafen (former Astrium/ Dornier Satellitensysteme GmbH, DSS), looks back on more than 50 years of space experience. During this time the site has successfully led or participated in a large number of national and international space programs especially in the fields of science, earth observation/remote sensing and satellite communications as well as manned missions. The involvement in this wide range of disciplines with distinctly different requirements has created a broad experience and well recognized capabilities in all major technical areas relevant to space flight applications.
The Product Centre "Electronics" in Airbus DS GmbH Friedrichshafen started its activities in 1968 and has since then been engaged in space power electronic systems and related hardware including Electronic Power Conditioner (EPC) for Travelling Wave Tube Amplifiers (TWTA) and High Voltage Power Supplies (HVPS) for Electric Propulsion (EP) and experiments on manned missions.
